11/30/13 - Chad Hennings

Today is American Express Small Business Saturday, where they encourage you to shop at local small businesses by offering a $10 statement credit if you spend at least $10 on your Amex card.  So I ventured down to my favorite $1 Bookstore and bought ten books, in essence for free.  One of the books I purchased was Chad Hennings' book It Takes Commitment.  It was signed on the inside, along with a Bible verse inscription for Philipians 4:13 - I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.

11/29/13 - Lance Deal

Track and field is a second class sport in the United States, and hammer throwing is a second class event in the sport.  Both of these facts are unfortunate, especially since it is one of my favorite events.  Lance Deal is the American record holder in the event, and was the Olympic silver medalist in 1996 in a sport where Americans traditionally do not fare well.  I sent him an autograph request through the University of Oregon, where he is employed.  He was kind enough to also send a quick note, and inscribed his autograph with his American record distance.

11/9/13 - Pat Williams

Purchased a book by former Orlando Magic executive Pat Williams for a $1 at the used bookstore.  The book talks about leadership principals from Michael Jordan.  In addition to his NBA work, he is a motivational speaker.
